The University of Texas-Pan American, located in Edinburg, TX just 10 miles north of downtown McAllen, presents its annual Festival of International Books and Arts from March 28 through April 2, 2011.
FESTIBA promotes literacy and reading along with celebrating the arts and humanities within South Texas. The event provides UTPA and its surrounding communities the opportunity to engage through art exhibits such as "Selected Works on Paper" by Chicano artist, Yreina D. Cervantez, keynote speakers like Matthew Gollub, award-winning children's author and storyteller, and the five-day "Border Heroes" Academic Conference that will feature a select few men and women who have made a major impact on bridging cultural understanding between differing countries and their people.
Through the UTPA faculty/student and guest presentations, in addition to the musical concerts, film presentations, and mariachi workshop and competition, children and adults alike will benefit from all that FESTIBA has to offer.
